The fire started at about 8am this morning in Anating street off Atu, Calabar South.
It was due to the fluctuating power supply from the power source into the apartment.
This ignited the fire to the level of destroying properties worth thousands of Naira.
The fire was sustained with a generator loaded with fuel which further increased the flames and smoke.
The flame was increasing to the ceilings and then the roof .
The neighbours raised an alarm calling people and the blowing an alarm trumpet.
People ran from all corners of the neighbourhood with water, sand and detergents engaging the fire, controlling it from spreading.
They further reach out to the Cross River State Fire Service through series of phone calls and word of the mouth, who arrived after several minutes.
The fireman and some neighbours engaged the fire for over 2 hours.
The fire was later quenched after several hours after destroying the roof,its wood , celling and properties cos of the wild spread.
It ended at 11am.
