8 Golf Tips for Beginners

Golf is viewed as somewhat of a luxury sport. With the luscious greens, the scenic views, and what seems like a sedate pace, it is not difficult to see why. However, golf is a lot more difficult to play than a lot of people realize. If you are thinking about taking up this sport, whether competitively or for fun, read on for some top tips to help you get started.

8 Golf Tips for Beginners, tiger woods, nike

  1. Try a par three course - Par three courses are an excellent way for beginners to develop their course management skills and their understanding of the game. You will start to hone your all-important short-game skills, as opposed to spending all of your time looking for golf balls.

  2. Use a golf simulator - You don’t need to go to a golf course in order to practice. In fact, you can bring the golf course to your home with an Optishot golf simulator. You may think that a golf simulator is simply a novelty item.

While there are novelty versions, there are also professional versions that enable you to practice effectively, offering instructions and analysis on every swing. Some use advanced technology to track launch angle, ball spin, and shot direction.

  3. Leave the driver in the bag - When you are starting out, use your pitching wedge. You can then move through your bag, mastering every golf club as you go. Avoid the driver, as this is one of the most difficult clubs to use, and so it should be mastered last.

  4. Use plenty of loft - You will strike the ball more cleanly and develop a better posture if you practice a short, lofted club. On the other hand, you will get used to a destructive scooping action if you have too little loft.

  5. Enjoy yourself - Golf is all about having fun. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you aren’t progressing as quickly as you would like to. You will find that you perform better when you are relaxed and enjoying yourself. Take a look at our post to find out why now is the best time to be a golfer.

  6. Make range sessions count - Before you head to your chosen golf course, you need to learn your trade on the driving range. Make sure your sessions last for at least 30 minutes and includes 50 balls.

  7. Start down swings with your hips - Don’t start your down swing with your upper body. You will find that nearly every single down swing mistake arises because of this. Instead, you need to start these swings with your hips.

  8. Take dead aim - This applies to your club face, shoulders, hips, knees and, of course, your feet. A good golfer checks their alignment each and every practice session.

So there you have it; eight tips for any aspiring golfers. If you follow the tips that have been mentioned above, not only will your golf skills improve at a quicker pace, but you will have more fun in the process too. Could you be the next Tiger Woods?
