Oh boy! It has been a great year for soccer - even in the MLS which has only just kicked off for the new season. With Barcelona's heroic comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League as well as Leicester extending on their Premier League win from last way with some European heroics.

However, if you're not following a team, or are unaware of the scope of soccer at large, here are some of the teams that are having a good 2017 so far.

Napoli

The Naples giants are establishing themselves as the cream of Italian, and European football as well as being the darling of many a football blog. In recent years, they have found themselves competing against Real Madrid for European honors while chasing the Serie A title at home.

RB Leipzig have slipped off the pace a bit in 2017, but they will still qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season - which is a massive achievement for an East German team that was in in the doldrums of the German football pyramid not three years ago.

They do have the spending power of Red Bull behind them, but that shouldn’t take away from what has been a truly fantastic first year in the top division of German football.

Atlanta United

New to the MLS, but not new to the sport - Atlanta are making waves in Major League Soccer. Montreal and New York Red Bull are the only teams to stop Atlanta. A four nil routing of Chicago and a six goal devastation of Minnesota show Atlanta’s early prowess.

Huddersfield

Having quietly assembled one of the best teams in the second tier of English soccer under the best coach in the league, David Wagner. Huddersfield have a attacking philosophy that has seen them succeed in the Championship. If they get promoted - we’ll see this success at a higher level.

The ‘Toffees’ aren’t as good as their cross city rivals- Liverpool - but they are having one of their better years under Ronald Koeman.

After years of mediocrity, they are challenging for a European place thanks to the prowess of Romelu Lukaku, but the Belgian striker might be leaving at the end of the season. The blue side of Liverpool will need to find a replacement for Lukaku if they wish to build on this good season.
