The Golden Age: How Technology Is Improving Our Lives

There are a lot of posts floating around the internet all about the dangers of modern technology, as though there's some sort of apocalypse that's incoming because of our reliance on smartphones and social media. Now, it hardly takes a genius to realize that this kind of attitude is completely ridiculous.

Human beings aren't suddenly going to spend all of their time hunched over screens, avoiding any real human contact, and neglecting all of the important tasks that they need to do. After all, technology is just an extension of something that human beings have been doing since the dawn of civilization.

It's a way for us to make life better and easier. With that in mind, here are just a few ways that technology is making everyone's lives better.

It Keeps Us Connected

When you see someone on the street or in a cafe, and they're hunched over their phone, what's the first thing that you think?

Do you assume that they're avoiding the world and need to look up from their gadget and appreciate everything around them? Well, maybe you need to look again.

That person who, to you might be avoiding the world, could well be making plans to see friends, connecting with someone that they lost touch with, maybe even taking the time to send a message to their parents who they haven't seen in awhile.

Technology allows people to stay connected even over vast distances, keeping friendships and relationships strong even when they're not in the same room as one another.

It's Impossible To Feel Bored

When you were sat at a bus stop, you used just to have to sit there and count the minutes until it arrived and maybe made some awkward small talk with the people around you.

Now, thanks to technology, it's possible to whip out your smartphone and do just about anything you like. You can read articles, play games, or just about anything else you can think of. No matter what you're interested in, there's a chance that technology and the internet can help you use it to avoid boredom.

Academic types have plenty of websites to further their knowledge and expand their minds, while those looking to make a doctor's waiting room a little less monotonous can go here and play some games to pass the time.

It's Saving Lives

Whatever you think of home computers and smartphones, there's one thing you cannot deny: technology is saving lives every single day. The medical industry has benefited more from recent technological advances than just about any other.

Whether it's top of the range scanning equipment, the ability to analyse samples in an instant, or being able to look up symptoms and find a diagnosis faster than ever before, there aren't many people who would look at the modern state of the medical professional and be able to honestly say that it would be better without any modern technology.

So the next time someone tries to tell you that you're spending too much time on your phone, or that being on your computer is a waste of time, you can remind them of all of the amazing things that technology has done for millions of people all over the world.
