It is so easy to underrate Aisha Buhari, because of her apparent worldliness and examplary looks. But if she nurtures personal ambitions for power and influence, I personally would not be surprised; she would not be the first remarkably beautiful first lady in history to court power and glory!
Many did succeed, through wiles and guile. Infact, in South America, one particular first lady preferred to divorce her husband inorder to succeed him as president- that way, she overcame a constitutional provision that forbade spousal succession!
Aisha's "affront" contains all the seeds of realpolitik and guile. In
apparently making a case for "inclusiveness and equity", she was subtly
rallying the disgruntled and sulking members of the ruling coalition who
have been overlooked by the President. But it is difficult to see how
Aisha will succeed.
No cabal is holding her husband captive. Mamman Daura and Co are merely doing the President's will. And that will is to maximize power and impose a view of the nation so parochial in scope and so brazenly sectional in its implementation.
Such a dastardly scheme can hardly be halted by a wife who merely belongs in Buhari's kitchen and bedroom! Nor will the scheme accommodate the progressive ideals of naive and shortsighted party men who have been sidelined by geography and brinksmanship.
In the context of realpolitik, those sidelined are mere canon fodder; their inclusion within the power loop might unhinge the ultimate objective!
But Aisha's effusion is not altogether valueless. Apart from highlighting the doctrinal discord blighting the administration, it is a shrill and strident voice emanating from the leader's bedroom and hinting that the nation is a helpless hostage!
