In the news: Federal Judicial Service Commission Okays Onnoghen as next Chief Justice of Nigeria‎
History is about to be made, this is the first time in close to two decades the Chief Justice of the Nigerian supreme court is coming from southern Nigeria. What even makes me more happy is the fact that he's from Cross River :) ‎

Walter Onnoghen is from Okurike town in Biase LGA, the same place (I stand to be corrected) where the current deputy Governor of CRS hails from.

Like I keep positing, this dispensation has really favoured my home state - appointment wise. It's now left for us to see if the several senior Cross Riverians serving at the Federal level would synergize and work towards giving the state a new lease of life - put it on a permanent cruise control pedestal, such that, it's economy will become permanently autonomous, much like that of Lagos which like it was once a Federal capital.

To be sincere, I'm not very impressed with what I've seen so far. Most of the Abuja based Cross River Federal appointees seem to be focusing more on political consolidations than delivering the much needed good governance that their people back home are hungry for. We're watching.

Many people think that the recent nomination of Justice Walter Onnogen from Cross River as the next CJN came on a platter of gold, they think it's because since he was the most senior supreme court justice, tradition was followed, hence he was elevated.

You see, the Hausa/Fulani have a vice-like grip on the supreme court, this is why for close to 20 years, they've churned out chief Justice after chief justice.

What the bench cartel usually do is, once it's time to nominate a new chief justice and a southerner is next in line(most senior justice), he's quickly retired to make way for a Fulani Justice who is junior to him, who then automatically becomes the Chief Justice in waiting.

That has been the norm for decades; I believe it was out of fear that this wasn't invoked this time around. Fear maybe due to the affirmative action noise most of us have been making since the advent of this government.

That's why I'll keep admonishing southern Nigerians to unite so the Fulani mafia doesn't finish us with politics. We should stop throwing our own(southern leaders) under the bus, sacrificing them on the stupid altar of political correctness just because we're offered morsels via their divide and rule tactics. A word is enough for the wise.
