We're All Talking About The Three Movies Coming Out This Month

It’s that time of the year again: The Summer blockbuster season, and all the big studios are trying to capture their respective markets. Just look at what going on in the kid’s segment. We’ve got Disney’s BFG, Tarzan, The Secret Life of Pets and a new Ice Age and that’s just scratching the surface. But what about the rest of us. Is August shaping up to be a month to spend at the movies? Let’s take a look.

David Brent: Life On The Road

Thirteen years ago, Ricky Gervais finished filming the last episode of the office. And since then he’s gone on to have a bigger and better careers. His latest comedy sees him return as David Brent. Brent was the cringe-worthy character we remember from the TV sitcom. He’s back and this time, he’s juggling his dreary day job with his work in his band, foregone conclusion.

The big absence from the film is Gervais’ co-writer, Stephen Merchant. So will the film be romping good fun at the hands of Ricky Gervais? Or without the talent of Merchant, will it slip into film oblivion? Only time will tell.

David Brent: Life on The Road premieres on August 19, and with general showings and subtitling following soon after.

Suicide Squad

Have we hit peak superhero? Apparently no according to the lovable DC Comics brand. They want us to have yet another superhero summer blockbuster. And with suicide squad, they’ve done a lot to whet our appetite.

This movie looks a lot darker than the kind we’re used to seeing from the franchise. It’s sort of reminiscent of the Dark Knight in its moodiness. The Suicide Squad is a dysfunctional squad of sociopaths who apparently are all Earth has to protect it.

The movie is cast with some great actors. Will Smith makes an appearance, much to the joy of many of us. And she’ll be joined by none other than Jared Leto. He’s playing “the Joker.” Margot Robbie will also be in the film.

As far as the trailers go, the film looks sharp. The movie is action packed, as any good superhero film should be. But will it unite us, like Iron Man did? Or will it divide us like Deadpool? That is the question.

Bad Moms

The summer is always comedy season at the cinema. And Bad Moms looks to continue that tradition. We’ve already had Bridesmaids and Desperate Housewives. Bad Moms is pitched as being in the middle of the two. The premise here, as always, are highly strung suburban moms, looking to have fun. Eventually, the good times roll and the moms go on a wild frenzy around town. Of course, something is bound to go wrong, and we’ll just have to wait and see what that is.

The cast is all-star. Heading the case is actress Mila Kunis, famous for her roles in Black Swan, and Oz the Great and Powerful. The film also stars Kristen Bell. But whether the movie will be a hit remains to be seen. After all, it’s been written by the same guys who wrote, The Hangover.
