Technology is changing many facets of our existence, and one of those facets is travel. Whether you hop on the bus once a week, of fly once a month, it’s bound to have hit you in some way.
So, join me as we run down some of the biggest ways that technology has impacted our travel time. Technological advancements like mobiles and the internet have helped us the most, and have done so in 5 important ways.
1. Connecting you with travel companies

Previously, you’d have to ring them up by phone, and possibly wait as the hold message plays down the speaker. Fortunately, that’s no longer the case! No matter your issue, travel companies can be found on social media that can update you on everything you need to know.
Wondering why your flight is delayed? You can check. Want to enquire about a destination? Go for it! Social media shows us that these companies have personalities, and aren’t faceless. You’ll never feel left out of the loop.
2. Staying in touch - for improved safety

There are free wifi hotspots available everywhere, from cafes to airports. It’s easy to email, text and Skype the people you love most, to let them know you’re safe. You can buy a local 3G/4G connection to stay in touch when on the go, because hey, why not! A VPN can protect your personal information when you’re in a public space, so you can browse worry-free.
This extends to our travel methods too. Commuter trains now come packing wifi hotspots, and long-distance flights have the same benefits. Cruisers, boats and yachts aren’t left out, either. By utilising yachts and 4G technology, boat guests - as well as the crew - can connect. All around, safety is improved. We can report problems, and inform people of our destination, with ease.
3. One form of travel isn’t better than the other

Because technology has advanced so much, there really aren’t any benefits to taking one form over another. This means we are allowed to choose our favorite option without feeling restricted.
You can access the internet on a yacht, plane, bus or cruise ship. You can play games from anywhere, and entertain yourself on every corner of the globe. No matter how you choose to travel, you won’t feel limited.
4. Getting the latest travel information

Ever been wanting a trip into town, but didn’t know the bus times? Ever wanted to know when the next flight is? I’m sure you have, and now, it’s easy to check. No longer will we have to blindly run to the bus stop, or enter the airport and pray.
Of course, not all information on the web is reliable, but that’s up to you to decide. We can access every website in the world from the palm of our hands, which means we can find things quickly. It’s even better if the company have made their site mobile friendly - but when are we that lucky?
5. Learning new languages

Previously, you’d have to suffer if you didn’t know the language of the country you were visiting. Now, it’s a simple case of accessing a 3G/4G/wifi connection to download a language app. There’s also Google Translate, iTranslate and a bevy of other services.
Sure, you could carry a phrasebook, but that won’t have everything you possibly need. Why not push the boat out?
