THE DEPLORABLE STATE OF CALABAR-OGOJA HIGHWAY

DEPLORABLE STATE OF CALABAR-OGOJA HIGHWAY

THE DEPLORABLE STATE OF CALABAR-OGOJA HIGHWAY
Must all of us die before the super highway is completed?
“Is it wise to die of famine today while saving to become a millionaire tomorrow?”
It is no longer news that president Buhari has performed the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the super highway from Calabar to the northern part of the state. Whether the contractors have started work and what is their credential and if they can deliver on time is a story for another day.

However, most worrisome to Cross Riverians is the deplorable state of the Calabar-Ogoja highway, where souls are lost on daily basis. Travelling within same state has not being so cumbersome and energy sapping as what my people are suffering on this road.

People sometimes spend the whole day or even more, for a journey that is not supposed to be more than four hours maximum. The records of accident on this road are better imagined than described. Promising young Nigerians have seen their lives and dreams extinguished on this road, that connects Calabar to Ogoja and other northern parts of Nigeria.

We quite understand the dream of the state governor, Professor Benedict Ayade constructing a super highway (First in this part of the world) to curb the problem once and for all. However, should we all die in the Calabar-ogoja highway while waiting for the finishing of the super highway?

We plead with the state governor to liaise with the federal ministry of works and FERMA as a matter of public urgency to refurbish this existing road so that our people don’t get extinct while waiting for him to deliver his promise to the people.

...Above is just an excerpt from a section of the federal highway... for how long must our people suffer and die on this road?
