David de Gea has signed a new four-year contract worth £200,000 a week at Manchester United just days after he almost quit the club for Real Madrid.
The Spain goalkeeper who had been earning a comparatively lowly £60,000 a week at Old Trafford almost left for the Bernabeu on Spain's transfer deadline day, only for a delay in the requisite paperwork to scupper the deal.
De Gea had been left out of Louis van Gaal's squad this season due to concerns over a lack of focus, but those doubts have now been banished after United announced that he has signed a new contract.
De Gea's new deal sees him stay at United until 2019, with an option to extend that by a further year.
De Gea said: “I am delighted to be starting this new chapter in my United career. I have always enjoyed playing with these great players in front of our fantastic fans.
