Military officers overthrew the government of Burkina Faso on Thursday, Authorities further noted that the transitional government has now been been dissolved, Al Jazeera reports.
A military spokesman, Mamadou Bamba, appeared on television to confirm the coup. The council, he said, is led by Gen. Gilbert Diendéré, who had been a close ally of the former president Blaise Compaoré, who was in power for 27 years.
