Flooded Bridge Kills One in Plateau

It was a sad day in Gindiri Local Government Area of Plateau state when workers and residents couldn’t make it to work as a flood submerged the only bridge connecting the Gindiri and Lange in Mangu local government area of the state.


This also affected movement of vehicles on both ends. The incident was caused by the heavy rainfall of experienced in Plateau state. The villagers alleged that a man on bike trying to cross at the peak of the flooding at night got drowned in the process.

 After several hours, the level of water on the bridge fell to below waist level and the brave youths started ferrying bikes and passengers on their backs at the rate of N200 per person.

They alleged that it is a recurring problem every year, and that the government should do something about it. The local government chairman of Mangu, Sarinki Lange and the Sum Phyem of Mangu later visited the site to assess the situation.

The local government chairman promised to take up the matter with the deputy governor of the state who is also from the area.
