Following reports from Daily Post, the students said they are constantly facing robbery attacks and also rape of female students by suspected cultists. A student known as Favour(Pseudonym), said the crime rate has increased recently.
“We are like living with devils here in Ekpoma,” she said.Recently fifty-six suspected cultists were arrested by the police in Edo state for killings and violence. The arrests came after the IGP Solomon Arase ordered that a special squad of officers be set up to combat cultism and crime in the state.
“Last week, they came to my hostel and attacked us, they carted away our foodstuff and money, they even raped some of my fellow students.”
According to her, even members of the host community suffer the same fate as the students.
“We keep hearing of the same issue everywhere in this community every day and the police are not doing anything about it,” she added.
“My friend who was raped by the guys is yet to recover from the trauma, the police authority should come to our aid.”
