Nacho Monreal is set to sign a two-year deal with Spanish club Athletic
Bilbao, according to reports in Spain.
Talks
between Arsenal and Monreal's representatives to extend his Arsenal
contract beyond the end of next season have stalled and Athletic Bilbao
are closing in on a £6m swoop for the versatile defender.
A report by Spain Top media outlet Marca
also revealed that the 29-year-old will initially pen a two-year deal
with the Basque side, with the option of a further year based on
appearance-related objectives.
The
gunners are currently in Singapore to contest the Barclays Asia Trophy
but an agreement between Arsenal and Bilbao is set to be sealed in the
coming days.
Nacho Monreal,
who signed for Arsene Wenger's men in January 2013 for a fee of around
£8m, impressed last season and made 39 appearances,while improvising most times as a centre-back.
