Would You Wear Your Mother’s Wedding Dress?

Fashion, Weddings

It’s June and it’s wedding season.

Just to get it out of the way, I am married. I have been for a couple of years now. Our wedding was an intimate affair, with only five members of our family who witnessed us exchanging vows and
giggling every couple of minutes or so.

I was pregnant when we tied the knot, so my sartorial options were limited. I donned a dress with blue and red feather prints. Pressed for time and enveloped by nerves, I did my make-up haphazardly. It was one of the best days of my life.

If we were given more time to prepare, however, I think I would have put more thought on what I wore or how I tried to present myself.
I’ve toyed with the idea of wearing my mother’s dress when I when I was younger, although when I think about it now, the idea appears to be far from stellar. I am, give or take, 6 inches taller than my mother. The dress — an ivory gown with a floor-length skirt, long, sheer sleeves that have tiny embroidered dots and a sweetheart necklace — would have looked far from its immaculate state if I wore it.

I’ve no plans on marrying again, so the idea will be shelved for eternity. But it does make me wonder: would you consider wearing your mother’s dress to your wedding? If you did, how was the experience?
