SHOCKING: 27 Dead After Terrorists Attack Tourists On Vacation In Tunisia

News, Tunisia, Hotel Riu Imperial Marhaba

So shocking. At least 27 beachgoers are dead after terrorists gunned them down during a vicious attack near two Tunisian beachside hotels in the popular resort city of Sousse Today.

Terrorists opened fire near two Tunisian beachside hotels today, leaving 27 people dead. The victims included foreign tourists staying in the coastal resort city of Sousse. Two gunmen were reportedly involved in executing these innocent victims, Tunisia’s Interior Ministry said. One gunman is dead, and the other is still on the loose.

The gunmen brutally murdered tourists, reported to be mostly German and British people, as they lounged on the beach. Security responded immediately and killed one of the suspected attackers while the other fled, according to the Associated Press. The death toll could rise beyond the 27 confirmed dead, Interior Ministry Spokesman, Mohammed Ali Aroui, said. Six other people were wounded in the massacre.

The scene on the beach was utter chaos. Tourist Gary Pine said he was on the beach when he heard what “we thought was firecrackers going off” 100 yards away. He also said he heard an explosion from the next hotel complex. His son said he had seen someone get shot. Guests at the hotel, including Gary, were initially told to lock themselves in their rooms before they were asked to gather in the lobby.

Sousse is a favored resort among Tunisians and Europeans. June is the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, so people on the beach at this of the year are usually tourists. One of the hotels has been identified as the Hotel Riu Imperial Marhaba.

Police are actively pursuing the other suspect. News of this awful massacre comes on the same day as a French terrorist attack, which left one person dead after being decapitated. The terror group ISIS claimed responsibility for a June 26 attack on a mosque in Kuwait, which killed and injured many worshippers.

The country of Tunisia is the birthplace of the Arab Spring. Tunisia unveiled its new democratically elected government after successful presidential elections in Dec. 2014.

It was a triumph for the country. Sadly, Tunisia was attacked in March 2015 when two Tunisians returning from Libya killed 22 people at a national museum. This latest attack is such a shocking blow to a country that has made so much progress.

Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.
