Man Jailed For Impersonating Ex-Benue Governor Gabriel Suswam.

News, Benue State, Joseph Gabriel, Gabriel Suswam.

In a report published on Daily Post, a Lagos state High Court presided over by Justice Lawal Akapo jailed the accused, one Joseph Gabriel, for extorting money from some foreigners pretending to be Suswam.

The man is in police custody for allegedly impersonating the former governor of Benue state, Gabriel Suswam.

Gabriel was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on a four counts charge bordering on conspiracy to defraud, impersonation, forgery and using false document.

According to the law enforcement agency, Gabriel was nabbed in 2014 following a petition that he impersonated Gabriel Suswam. The accused also procured a fake International passport bearing the name of the  former governor but with his own passport photograph.

Part of the charge reads, “That you, Joseph Gabriel, Augustine Akile (at large), and Victor Kayode (at large), on or about October 29, 2014, in Lagos, within the Ikeja Judicial Division, conspired to defraud one Abdulrahman Nocari of the United Arab Emirates by falsely presenting to him that you are Gabriel Suswam, the Governor of Benue State, and falsely soliciting a false investment proposal in real estates, hospitality, tourism and oil and gas, which you falsely claim will accumulate 15% interest to him.”

Count 2: “Joseph Onoja Gabriel, on or about 29th of October 2014 at Ikeja within the Ikeja Judicial Division falsely represented yourself to one Abdulrahman Nocari of the United Arab Emirates that you are Gabriel Torwua Suswan, the Governor of Benue State to solicit false investment proposal from him”.

Gabriel, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read.

Justice Akapo consequently ordered that Gabriel be remanded in the Kirikiri maximum security prison pending his bail application and adjourned the case to November 23, 24 and 25, 2015 for trial.

This comes just a month after another victim, 19-year-old man Emmanuel Eto was arrested for allegedly impersonating the All Progressive Congress leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
